Man jailed for 13 years for arson and two robberies

Daniel Carpenter, 36, from Crumlin has today been sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison at Newport Crown Court.

Carpenter pleaded guilty to arson and two robberies.

The robberies occurred on 9th September 2017 at Crumlin Post Office where money was stolen, and 14th November 2017 at Albion Road Filling Station in Pontypool where money and cigarettes were stolen. The arson relates to a car fire on Manmoel Road in Blackwood also on 14th November 2017.

Office in the case, PC Martyn Newman said:

"This investigation was very much a team effort and the hard work and persistence of all those involved has paid off with today's outcome.

"Carpenter took no responsibility for his actions and showed no remorse throughout the investigation.  He lied and claimed innocence right up until the morning his trial was due to commence, it was only at the last minute he pleaded guilty.

"The sentence given today reflects the seriousness of Carpenter's crimes.

"We are continuing to undertake enquiries to identify a second offender involved in the Albion Road filling station robbery, if you think you can assist, please call 101 quoting log 514 14/11/17."
