This Summer, police officers across Wales will be targeting drivers who risk their lives and the lives of others by driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Gwent Police will be taking part in a month-long campaign, running from 14th June to July 15th 2018, alongside the three other welsh police forces.
As the weather heats up, many will be having a few drinks in the Summer sunshine, but we're asking drivers to THINK before getting behind the wheel. Please plan ahead and ensure that if you are planning on drinking, you have a safe and reliable way of getting home.
Deputy Chief Constable for Gwent Police, Pam Kelly said: "The lighter evenings and warmer weather, are great reasons to get together with family and friends. We want people to enjoy themselves, but stay safe and responsible by not getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol or taking drugs.
As part of this all Wales campaign, officers will be patrolling the roads throughout the next month, carrying out roadside breath tests. Our officers also carry kits that can detect illegal drugs, making us more equipped than ever to take action against those who are putting themselves and the safety of others at risk. Think about what it could mean for you, just taking just one chance and getting behind the wheel, can have truly devastating consequences not just for you but for your loved ones and others road users."
Across our social media pages, we'll be reminding the public to not drive whilst under the influence including some hard hitting real life quotes from those who have been affected by such a selfish crime follow @GwentPolice on Facebook and Twitter.
