Attempted robbery near the canal Pontnewydd

Was this you? Officers are investigating an attempted robbery near the canal near Pontnewydd in Cwmbran.

During the incident at approximately 2pm on Monday 14th May 2018, it is believed two unknown men approached the victim and threatened her whilst demanding money.

Fortunately, the men were disturbed by a dog walker and then made off, leaving the victim without serious injuries.

Officers are now keen to seek the identity of the dog walker, as they believe he might hold vital information to assist with their ongoing enquiries. 

He has been described as white, 6ft tall, of a medium build and wearing a t-shirt and jogging bottoms.

The dogs are described as a black Labrador and a white/golden coloured Staffordshire Bull Terrier. 

Specialist officers are supporting the victim who is understandably shaken from the incident.

A 17 year old man from Cwmbran has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and remains in police custody.
