Man sentenced to 18 weeks in prison after theft from vehicles in Newport

A 21 year old man from Newport has been sentenced to 18 weeks in prison for theft from vehicles in Lliswerry, Alway and Ringland.


Officers are warning drivers to make sure they keep all items in their cars and vans out of sight.


We would also like to urge drivers to check and double check they've shut and locked all of the doors and windows on their vehicles when left unattended.

 
Thieves will be tempted by the smallest of items, so please also make sure nothing is left on view.


Top tips to avoid being a victims of car crime:

• Lock your vehicle

• Close all windows

• Remove all items and property that are on view

• Remove pull-out radios

• Remove sat nav devices and their holders

• Remove the marks on windscreens from sat nav

• If you have an alarm or immobiliser, then use it

• Keep your keys in a safe place
