Defendant Image Request
The Force is responsible for justifying the release of images, each case must be examined on an individual basis and must be necessary and proportionate.
The defendant must have been convicted of a crime where they may reasonably expect a prison sentence of 6 months or more.
When making a request you should include the following detail:
- Name of defendant
- DOB of defendant
- Date and location of court appearance
- Offence they were convicted of and sentence
- Summary of offence and circumstances - including location
All requests should be made as soon as possible, prior to your publication deadline. We will endeavour to get images to you as soon as possible, however, there are a number of checks that need to take place, and factors that need to be taken into consideration, including the impact on any victims and individual safety, before a decision can be made on release.
CCTV images/CCTV material Request
The Force releases CCTV images/material for policing purposes such as an appeal for witnesses. When considering the release of material editing may need to take place to disguise other individuals featured therefore all requests should be made as soon as possible, prior to your publication deadline.
Prosecution Material Relating to a Court Case
Prosecution material which has been relied in open court can be considered for release by the CPS, in consultation with police, to the media. Such material may include;
- CCTV footage of the defendant/victim (pixelated as necessary)
- Video and audio tapes of police interviews with defendants, victims and witnesses (edited as necessary)
- Images showing scenes of crime as recorded by police
- Images of property seized e.g. weapons, clothing, drug hauls or stolen goods
The views of victims, witnesses and other people directly and personally affected by a case, such as family members, will be given particular consideration when making any decision to provide prosecution material to the media.
Police Officer or Member of Staff Image Request
If you would like a photograph of one of our officers please advise what you intend to use it for and when it will be used. We will then liaise with the individual directly to consider release.
Image off our Social Media Accounts
Images released on our social media channels are in the public domain, however, we do request that if you intend on taking any images from these channels for your own use you contact us in advance so we know how they will be used and we can ensure there are no copyright issues.
The Gwent Police Crest
The use of the Gwent Police Crest is not permitted without the permission of Gwent Police. Please contact us if you wish to use it, explaining why. We will need to ensure the correct graphic is used in terms of file type and size to avoid any problems with the crest being distorted.
