My vehicle has been seized under Sec 165 A-C Road Traffic Act 1988 - what now?
When your vehicle was seized you should have been given a 'Seizure Notice'.
Together with this form, take the documents listed below to the named Police Station. These are:
- Valid driving licence allowing you to drive that class of vehicle
- Valid insurance specifically for the vehicle
- Proof of identification.
Without all of the above the vehicle will not be released.
The seized vehicle can only be reclaimed from the specific garage from Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm. Prior contact with the garage by telephone before your attendance will avoid delay in the vehicles return to you.
This must be done within 14 working days of the date of seizure (excludes Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays). If you do not attend within this time, the vehicle and any property left in it will be disposed of.
A release notice will be completed by the front desk staff at the Police Station and given to you to take to the garage.
You must take proof of identification to the garage where the vehicle is being held together with means to pay all recovery and storage charges.
Once paid in full, the vehicle will be released.
